UPDATE (2:52 p.m.): FOX 5 Atlanta reports that the Cobb County inmate who was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital over fears that he contracted Ebola while traveling in Africa recently has tested negative for the virus in a preliminary screening.
According to the Marietta Daily Journal, the man was arrested at approximately 3 a.m. Friday. While undergoing a medical exam during the booking process, it was determined that the man was not well. WSB-TV reports that the inmate was suffering from a fever.
After the inmate told jail staff that he had recently been to Africa, he was immediately isolated and Cobb and Douglas Public Health was summoned to examine him. Following an interview, the inmate was taken to WellStar Hospital for further testing.
ORIGINAL STORY (1:56 p.m.): A man who was arrested for driving under the influence and failure to maintain his lane is now at WellStar Kennestone Hospital after he told Cobb County jail staff he had recently traveled to Africa and was now suffering from “flu like symptoms.”
