A Mexican restaurant in Acworth voluntarily closed after receiving a second failing routine health score this year.

Taqueria El Tapatio, 4974 Cowan Road, was still without a certified food safety manager and had several code violations compromising food safety, according to the Cobb County inspector.

Raw beef and chicken were improperly thawing in a prep sink. Food service employees were observed constantly touching their clothes while wearing gloves then continuing to prep food without stopping to wash their hands and change their gloves. Employees were also washing their hands without lathering with soap.

Taqueria El Tapatio scored 57/U and agreed to close and remain closed until being re-inspected.

The restaurant scored a 69/ U on a routine inspection in March, then pulled the health score up to 93/A on a followup inspection.

In other code violations, rice was not cooled quickly enough to prevent contamination. It was discarded. Churros were being stored in paper bags, instead of food-grade materials, in the reach-in cooler. Waste liquid from a drink machine tubing was draining into a bucket, instead of a floor drain or other approved plumbing method.

In other news from Cobb County, recently featured Hong Kong Star, 557 S. Marietta Parkway, Marietta, scored 88/B on a follow-up inspection.
