The new building will serve tuberculosis patients, women, children, and epidemiology personnel among other uses.
Cobb & Douglas Public Health (CDPH) unveiled the newest facility expansion to its Marietta Public Health Center on June 18, thanking community leaders and public health staff during a ribbon cutting ceremony for their commitments to ensure healthier lives and communities through support of Cobb & Douglas Public Health.
The celebration was attended by local and state elected officials and community leaders such as Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, Georgia Department of Public Health commissioner; Cobb County Board of Commissioners Chairman Tim Lee; Cobb County Manager David Hankerson; and Dr. Dan Stephens, Cobb County Board of Health chairman, who also played a critical role in supporting CDPH’s most recent accreditation awarded from the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), distinguishing Cobb & Douglas Public Health as the first public health agency in Georgia to receive accreditation.
Dr. Stephens noted how Cobb & Douglas Public Health staff has gone above and beyond to create one of the best public health districts in the nation. He also remarked that public health is “more than just food scores and pool inspections,” and described how CDPH staff care for many residents in the community who often don’t have access to other forms of healthcare through a number of programs.
Dr. Fitzgerald echoed the sentiments, congratulating CDPH for its work helping implement the Georgia Shape “Power Up for 30” program in Cobb County schools. She also mentioned CDPH’s PHAB accreditation, which places Cobb & Douglas Public Health among only 75 other public health organizations out of more than 3,000 in the nation to receive PHAB certification.
The expanded facilities in Building B will provide improved clinical quality and service spaces for residents visiting the programs of Women, Infant and Child Nutrition (WIC), Tuberculosis, Children’s Medical Services and more. It will also provide expanded workspace and capabilities for Environmental Health, Epidemiology & Health Assessment, Chronic Disease Prevention and Emergency Preparedness & Response.
