Cobb and Douglas Public Health recently released its annual report cards on the health levels of both counties.

According to the report — named “How Healthy Are We?” — the combined about 855,000 residents share heart disease as the leading cause of death and continue to have obesity-related issues.

The report states about 36 percent of children and about 59 percent of adults are overweight or obese.

On the other side, there are fewer infant deaths overall because of improved prenatal education, lower teen birth rates and access to prenatal services, according to the report.

Jack Kennedy, district health director for Cobb and Douglas Public Health, said in a release the reports cards reflect indicators everyone can use to improve health.

“Understanding health concerns and risks will help us plan for the future, create solutions and provide positive health outcomes for our community,” Kennedy said.
